MARCO CREMONESI
This reportage aims to tell the life and hopes enclosed within the young people of the Calais Jungle. A climate of infinite anticipation fills the spaces of repetitive days, flooding the anxious eyes of those who gaze at the sea and, on clear days, see the white English cliffs as a dream closer than ever. On November 24, 2021, 27 people (17 men, 7 women, and 3 children) lost their lives by drowning whit vessel in the icy waters of the North Sea. This marks the largest migration tragedy to occur in the English Channel. The Grande Jungle of Calais was demolished in 2017, but in 2021, the migratory flow reached a record level of 26,000 people. The revived Calais Jungle remains a crucial point for transit towards the English shores.
